Background
Nigeria's power sector has long faced challenges with metering gaps, estimated billing practices, and significant commercial losses. These issues have eroded consumer trust and hindered the financial sustainability of distribution companies.
Launched under presidential directive, PreMIES represents the government's commitment to addressing these systemic challenges through technology-driven solutions. The initiative brings together federal agencies, electricity distribution companies (DisCos), meter manufacturers, and technology partners in a coordinated national effort.
By establishing standardised metering protocols, a centralised management platform, and robust regulatory oversight, PreMIES aims to close the metering gap and transform how Nigerians interact with their electricity providers.
